OceanGrid’s Scorpio is based on a light weight TLP modular steel design which is self-stabilized during tow-out & installation.
The Scorpio design consists of two main modules which can be bolted or welded together into a complete floater.
The physical assembly time for the two modules including the WTG are estimated to 1-2 weeks.
The two modules are fabricated from steel pipe with the same diameter and wall thickness as used in conventional offshore fixed bottom monopiles. This enables the Scorpio design to leverage existing quality and cost-optimized supply chains established for the fixed bottom offshore wind sector.
Final assembly of the Scorpio floater, including a 15 MW WTG is possible in any marshalling port with a water depth >6 meters.
The design facilitates connection of the WTG whilst keeping the floater flange horizontal throughout installation
